Why can't people trust the Bible?

It seems that the Bible seems to be under great scrutiny more than it ever has before. People living in our post modern society today seemed to be searching for some purpose and meaning in life and chasing after the latest fads which tend to come and go. Why is it that people deny, seek to disprove and hate the Bible so much? Is it because it has stood the test of time and has something that touches a deep chord within all of us that it speaks the truth and maybe that is not what we want to hear? I would like to hear from people what genuine reasons (not people with a grip) they may have for not trusting the Bible.
